AGGREGATES

and their uses

We can categorise aggregates in to four groups

Group 1                  SUB BASE MATERIALS

MOT Type 1  - Can be either

       

Limestone,         or Slag  

  Path HogginA natural (As Raised Hoggin) with 20mm shingle added for strength

              MOT Type 2 AS Raised Hoggin as above but with 40mm shingle added. 

Both stem from a hoggin material that has been extracted from the ground, and have a constituency that allow them to bind together and can be compacted down to form a solid base.

                                 

         Crushed Asphalt                 Crushed Bricks              Crushed Concrete

All of the above materials can be used and when compacted down will form a solid base for a

Drive, Path way, or to prepare for a concrete slab for an Extension, Garage / Shed base

 

Group 2

SAND

            Red Pit Sand( used with Red Bricks)   Soft Sand              

Primarily used for Building / Bricklaying

 Sharp Sand -  Plastering and     Rendering   

Course Concreting Sand - Floor Screeding

Group 3

BALLAST

A mix of sharp Sand and stones

 10mm

The size describes the sieved state of the stone as it comes out of the quarry crushers.

10mm is suitable for garden paths, fence posts, shallow retaining wall foundations

 20mm    

Used for Mixing Concrete for foundations and footings.

A Concrete Slab for a Conservatory / Shed / Garage or Extension

Group 4

SHINGLE

 

Shingle has always been a firm favourite for Garden Projects

Available in different textures and sizes

  20mm SHINGLE

10mm Peashingle or 20mm Shingle

Mainly used for :

Replacing shingle on paths and drives

As a mulch to retain moisture on borders

and rockeries

For use in low maintenance gardens

over weed suppressant membrane

Pipes bedded in Peashingle

Back filling and bedding of pipes and armoured cable

40mm SHINGLE FOR LAND DRAINS

40mm, 75mm, and Rejects

   40mm Shingle in Land Drain

Land Drains, French Drains, Cesspits, Cesspools and Soakaway's

 For decorative purposes under trees, and on borders.

Rejects are also used to replace flints and stones in old walls
